David Gregory, Healthcare Leaders Speak at Exclusive Event with Prism Healthcare Partners

CHICAGO (May 4, 2016) – Prism Healthcare Partners LTD recently hosted a private event for healthcare executives featuring David Gregory, CNN political analyst and former moderator of Meet the Press. Drawing from his experience as a political journalist, Mr. Gregory delivered a keynote address on the state of politics in the United States. Following his presentation, Mr. Gregory moderated a panel of healthcare industry leaders to discuss the challenges and future of healthcare. Prism’s event was held in Chicago on April 28 in conjunction with the Becker’s Hospital Review 7th Annual Meeting.

During his keynote, Mr. Gregory discussed how nontraditional candidates have emerged as major players in the race to the White House. Mr. Gregory also offered his insights on the overall political climate in the United States and how many voters, both conservative and liberal, are disenchanted by today’s politicians. He concluded on a positive note, remarking, “This is still a great country with a very strong, if troubled and distressed political system. We do have a lot of challenges, but we also have so many great advantages that it’s worth remembering our ability to endure and persevere through these kinds of political winds.”

After the keynote, Mr. Gregory moderated a panel of esteemed healthcare industry leaders:

  • Kathy Bollinger, executive vice president of Banner University Medicine in Tucson, Arizona
  • John Orsini, senior vice president and CFO of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare in Chicago, Illinois
  • Mukesh Gangwal, president and CEO of Prism Healthcare Partners in Chicago, Illinois

The panel discussed major challenges and changes the healthcare industry faces, beginning with the Affordable Care Act. Panelists agreed the ACA is here to stay and is positive overall for the industry, but there is much more work to be done related to insurers, lowering the cost of care and reforming payment systems.

The panel also discussed the ongoing consolidation of healthcare organizations. Panelists pointed out that success requires reducing redundancies and overhead to deliver more cost-effective, quality care. Effective consolidation also necessitates understanding how to leverage the strengths of individual hospitals for the greater good of the system.

The panel concluded by sharing where they think the next President of the United States should focus within healthcare. Ideas include the costs of pharmaceuticals, reimbursement systems and aligning the need and right to good clinical care, end-of life care and advanced directives, and shifting the system so that the bulk of healthcare costs support taking care of patients.
